Myers VR1 and VR2 Series Grinder Pumps

Myers VR1 and VR2 Series Grinder Pumps

Is your sewage pump struggling to keep up with solids and trash?

Is your pump constantly getting clogged up by objects like rags, towels, jeans, mop heads, disposable wipes, feminine products, rope, or panty hose?

Myers patented axial cutter technology may be the solution to your clog problem. The axial cutter on Myers VR1 and VR2 grinder pumps can easily slice through solids and trash found in domestic wastewater without roping or clogging.

The diagram on the left below represents the radial cutter style that has been a standard feature of many of the grinders on the market. The new axial cutter design on VR1 and VR2 is pictured on the right.

Radial Cutter Design: The radial cutter design consists of a stationary shredding ring and a rotating cutter. It slings solids against the sharp edges of the stationary ring. The cutting takes place between the outer edge of the rotating cutter and the inner edge of the shredding ring. The solids are shredded into small particles and that usually pass through holes into the wet end of the pump. This process works well for most domestic sewage, however, it has less desirable results when handling objects like rags, towels, jeans, mop heads, disposable wipes, feminine products, rope, or panty hose. The stringy material found in these types of objects can get caught or build up in the outer passages of the stationary shredding ring. When the pump shuts down at the end of a cycle, the material can still be in the cutter. Upon startup, the pump will need enough torque to get the pump up to speed and also cut the material. This may jam the pump, and the material will need to be cleared before restarting the pump.

Axial Cutter Design: Grinders with axial cutter designs are gaining in popularity due to their ability to handle the stringy materials that have been jamming up radial cutter designs. Axial cutters take single bites of the solids and the remainder is pushed away from the inlet of the pump. This action prevents large solids from building up in the cutting mechanism and also clears the solids away from the inlet preventing jamming between pump cycles.

The Myers VR1 and VR2 Grinders outperform the competition, feature the patented axial cutter technology, and are available with 1 or 2 horsepower motors.
