Protecting Your Well Water Pump

Does your well run dry?

Do you want peace of mind in knowing that your pump and motor are protected from abnormal line voltage?

If the answer is yes to either of the questions above, you may want to consider the benefits of having motor protection for your pump. All too often people spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on their submersible water system without considering any form of motor protection device. There are a number of conditions that can wreak havoc on your system (and your wallet). A motor protection device will monitor and diagnose motor load to prevent pump or motor failure due to adverse conditions such as low-flow wells, pump damage, clogging, bound pump, or power mishaps.

We, at RC Worst & Company are a Key Dealer for Franklin Electric. Franklin Electric is recognized as the world’s leading producer of submersible electric motors, and is a premier global manufacturer of pumping systems, drives and controls. Franklin Electric’s Pumptec family provides the high performance pump protection you need deep down in the well.

When the Pumptec device detects a fault, it stops power to the motor for an adjustable amount of time to give the system a chance to recover. Think of it as insurance from:

  • High/Low incoming Voltage: Pumptec will take the motor offline if the voltage deviates plus or minus 10% of the rated voltage protecting your motor from a number of electrical problems.
  • Rapid Cycling: Rapid starting and stopping of a motor is often caused by a failed pressure tank or pressure switch. If this system-wrecking fault is ever detected, the Pumptec will cut power to the motor.
  • Dry Well/Underload: Caused by lack of water, blocked inlet, check valve stuck or closed, or loose impeller. Essentially the motor is not moving as much water as it should be and the Pumptec detects this, and turns the motor off.
  • Overload: When a pump becomes clogged with sand or other contaminants the Pumptec takes the motor offline.
