What is UV Treatment?

UV treatment is a process for purifying water. Water is purified as it runs through a chamber an receives a lethal dose of UV from the UV lamp. The water is then safe to drink.

Is UV Treatment a new thing?

No, ultraviolet disinfection of water has a long and well-proven history. It has been installed in many major public drinking water and wastewater treatment plants worldwide.

How often do I have to change the UV lamp?

The lamp should be replaced annually. After a year, UV light weakens and isn’t strong enough to properly disinfect your water.

What is pre-treatment?

Pre-treating the water is sometimes required in order to ensure that a UV system is effective. In order for the proper amount of UV light disinfect microbes, the water quality has to be ideal. Turbidity (cloudiness or haziness), suspended solids, color, iron, manganese, and hardness can prevent the UV light from reaching microbes and may require pre-treatment. At a minimum, all UV systems should be preceded by a 5 micron filter. Consult your local water treatment professional for recommendations on the proper pre-treatment.

What are the benefits of UV disinfection?

UV treatment is chemical-free, easy to install and service, economical and energy efficient, and addresses a broader range of pathogens than chlorine.
